Dennis Lewon of Backpacker Magazine does a great job of gearing you up.
He always tells me what to buy. (Editors Choice)
Digging your toes into the warm sands of Kalalau Beach is that much sweeter after the 11-mile trek to get there. You’ll ramble through five paradisiacal valleys en route. Spend night one in Hanakoa Valley (mile six) and stroll to 1,400-foot Hanakoa Falls. Hike five miles on day two to Kalalau, a mile-long beach bordered by sheer cliffs.Snack on wild mangoes, shower in waterfalls, and nod off to crashing waves. (Permits: $10/night per person.)
